PAWS (Personal Access Web Services)

All LSU students are assigned PAWS (Personal Access Web Services) accounts.  Personal Access Web Services (PAWS) is a dynamic electronic kiosk which delivers a suite of applications to the students, faculty, and staff of LSU based on their relationship to the University.

PAWS accounts are the primary means the University uses to communicate with students.  Students are expected to check their PAWS accounts on a regular basis as all important university information will be disseminated via PAWS.  If students choose to use a private internet carrier, they are responsible for forwarding their PAWS email to the private internet carrier.  This can be accomplished by logging into PAWS and choosing the following selections > Personal Preferences > LSU Email > PAWS forwarding address.

How do I obtain a PAWS account?

Your Personal Access Code is your 6-digit birth date

We recommend you establish a security question the first time you log on to PAWS by selecting > Personal Preferences > Security Question.  The security question will allow you reset your password online in the event that you should forget it.

For help using PAWS visit the About PAWS or Using PAWS web pages or contact the Application Service Center at (225) 578-0100

Enrolling in a Distance Education Course

If you have already been admitted to LSU and would like to enroll in a distance education course, you may do so via PAWS.  Please note that each distance location has a different section number that coincides with the geographic location of the course.  Section numbers are available under the Current Course Offerings listing.

Completing Registration for a Distance Education Course

Fee bills are available on-line after the continuing student deadline for each semester.  You may view your fee bill under the >Registration Services >Fee Bill link on your PAWS desktop.

You may pay your fees by using a check/bank draft or a credit card payment thru your PAWS account or by calling the LSU Office of Bursar Operations at (225) 578-3357.  You may also do so by mailing a check or money order to:

If your fee bill balance is zero, you are still required to complete registration by selecting the "Complete Registration" button from the "Fee Bill" application on your PAWS account.

Deferred Payment

The University offers a deferred payment plan as a payment option.  Eligible students are allowed to defer up to one-half (1/2) of their current semester charges by selecting the Payment Option via PAWS.  You must make this selection each semester and there is a $15 charge on all deferments.

For more information about eligibility and terms, please consult the schedule booklet.

Payroll Deduction

Graduate assistants and regular university employees may elect to pay their fees through payroll deduction using PAWS. You must make this selection each semester and complete registration even if the balance is zero.

Teacher Tuition Exemptions

Teacher Tuition Exemption applications should be obtained from and submitted to the school board, in which you are employed. Please be aware that these exemptions do not cover all fees.

Auditing Courses

Both regularly enrolled students and individuals who are not currently admitted to the university may audit distance courses with the written consent of the course instructor and the dean of the college offering the course.   Auditors will not receive degree credit for courses audited, nor will they later be permitted to take a credit examination on work audited.  However, courses previously audited may be later taken for credit.  Audited courses do not count in total course loads and are not recorded on official transcripts.

Fees for auditing courses are in accordance with the "Regular Semester" and "Summer Semester" fee schedule.  Maximum fee is $1,508 for the regular semester and $1,216 for the summer term, Fees for students enrolling for combined credit and audit work will be assessed in accordance with total hours scheduled.

Distance students who are not currently admitted to the university and who are interested in auditing a course must notify the Extended Learning Program Coordinator and file the Extension Student Application requesting to audit.
