To request to offer a distance course, please submit a Course
Request Form. The Course Request Form should be filled out in its
entirety before it is returned to Extended Learning.
If the course will be offered via compressed video, please
also download the Compressed
Video Approval Form. The top portion of the Compressed
Video Approval Form, as well as the list of distance sites, should be filled
out and sent to the appropriate distance official. The distance
official will complete the form and return it to Extended Learning.
Returning an incomplete
form delays the approval and scheduling process which in turn prevents students
from enrolling in the course.
NOTE:
Instructors assigned to teach extension courses who are not regular LSU employees must
have administrative approval from the Graduate School to teach the assigned
course. Please be sure your academic department has submitted the
Special Administrative Approval
Form to the Graduate School in advance of the Course Request Form
being sent to our office.
Submit a Course to the SREB
Electronic Campus
Louisiana
State University participates in the Electronic Campus of the Southern Regional
Education Board. If more than half of the delivery of your course is via
electronic means, all relevant course information must be submitted
here.
The information will be relayed by our office to the Electronic Campus to be
listed on their website. Our online form will allow you to save course
information prior to submission as well as use the saved information to proceed
with the submission of a distance Course Request Form if required (see below).
Faculty Compensation
Department chairs may request advance approval for course funding through the
Division of Continuing Education by indicating this on the Course
Request Form at the time that it is completed and submitted to the
Extension Credit Programs Office. In order to allow ample time for consideration
of approval for extra compensation, Course Request Forms must be
submitted well in advance of the upcoming semester. Extra compensation may be
requested for either regular LSU faculty members or adjunct faculty.
In addition to Division of Continuing Education approval, compensation is
contingent upon attaining minimum enrollment levels. In certain circumstances,
when it is a priority for departments to offer a particular course despite low
enrollment, a reduced sliding compensation scale may be applied.
LSU faculty are compensated on an "add comp" basis and are paid
four times during the regular semesters; twice for Summer A semester. Payment is
included in regular LSU payroll checks.
Adjunct faculty that have been granted
Special Administrative Approval
by the Graduate School to teach at the graduate
level will be contacted prior to the beginning of the semester and provided with
payroll forms to complete and return to Extension Credit Programs. Timely and
correct completion of personnel forms ensures that employment processing will
not be delayed.
Request a Roster
If you are teaching a distance course and would like to
request a copy of your class roster, need assistance with Blackboard, or notice
students missing from your roster, please e-mail Extended Learning
Many of the courses offered via compressed video to distance sites around the
state may appeal to a wider audience of prospective students, both
degree-seeking and non-degree seeking. If you are aware of any potential markets
for your course(s), we’d be happy to work with you to reach those potential
students. We have the capability to produce flyers, brochures, mail-outs, or any
other sort of materials specially suited to your identified market.
In addition, if you have ideas for courses not currently offered that might
appeal to people in the communities where compressed video classrooms are
located, we’d love to work with you to make those courses available.
