Admission Information
Graduate Admission
Distance learners seeking admission to the
LSU Graduate
School, (
http://gradlsu.gs.lsu.edu ),
may apply in one of two ways:
Before you begin the application process, you
must decide whether you will apply as a non-degree student or a degree-seeking
student.
-
A
degree-seeking
applicant is one who is admitted to the Graduate School and a
department program and may eventually become a degree candidate. Both
the Graduate School and the department must approve admission.
- A
non-degree
ap
plicant is
usually one who does not intend to seek a degree at LSU at the present time,
but rather to take only a few graduate-level courses.
Note: Be sure to complete the
correct
application. The non-degree and degree-seeking programs are two different
programs and require separate fees. If you fill out the wrong application,
your fee cannot be refunded or transferred.
Applying for Admission to a Degree Program
Degree-seeking
students should file an
Application for Admission to Graduate Degree Programs via the
web.
For detailed
information on the application process or to check the status of an
application, please visit the LSU Graduate School website.
Applying as a Non-Degree Student
If you are interested in seeking admission as a non-degree graduate student,
first contact the graduate advisor of your intended program. Some programs
restrict non-degree students to particular courses or will not later accept the
work toward degree-seeking requirements. This program is restricted to
U.S. citizens and permanent residents only.
Students who wish to
take a few graduate-level courses but who do not presently intend to seek a
degree should file an
Application for Admission to Non-Degree Programs with the LSU
Graduate School.
Applications should be submitted to:

Extension Admission
Under a
variety of circumstances, the Louisiana State University Extension Student
Application allows applicants to take either graduate or undergraduate level
distance learning classes without having to seek full admission to the
University.
Graduate
extension students are limited to a total of (6) hours of 4000-level credit and
(6) hours of 7000-level credit. If a student already holds a master's
degree they are exempt from this regulation. Thus, they are able to enroll
in a total of (12) hours of 7000-level credit as a graduate extension student.
No more
than 12 hours of credit taken while classified as an LSU extension student may
be applied toward a master's degree at LSU, pending approval of the department
chair and the dean of the Graduate School.
Extension enrollment is limited
to classes offered outside of East Baton Rouge parish.
Students classified as extension students are ineligible to enroll in on-campus
courses.
Being
admitted as an extension student does not imply regular acceptance to the
University, nor does it assure that any courses taken while classified as an
extension student will be applicable to a future degree program.
Extension Student Application
A
non-refundable, non-transferable application fee of $25.00 is required.
